What is Instructional Design?
Instructional Design is defined as "a systematic process that is employed to develop education and training programs in a consistent and reliable fashion" (Reiser, Dempsey, 2007).
Instructional Design should increase efficiency in programs and training. There are several functions and approaches to Instructional Design as well as many uses for it. This could be curriculum development, corporate training, staff and procedural training, programmatic assessments, and HR tools and the list goes on and on.
Instructional Design typically uses multimedia tools and educational technology to create engaging experiences that are sensitive to different types of learners. This focus is great for face to face instruction but focuses even more on hybrid and distance learning tools and strategies.
What is ADDIE?
There are several models of creating an instructional design, ADDIE is the most used.
Though its been around for decades and has many variations, the root foundation has been proven effective and works extremely well for solutions that utilize e-learning.
